Epsom Bath Salt Recipes – Simple Yet Elegant For Gift Giving

epsom bath salt recipe

The best Epsom bath salt recipe is the one that makes you happy when you step in to soak right? Here is a small collection of Epsom bath salt recipes to try for  your home or to give as gifts.

Chamomile Lavender Oatmeal Epsom Bath Salt Recipe

One recipe makes about 1 1/2 cups of oatmeal milk bath.

  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup ground oats (put 1/2 cup oats in your food processor and process until finely ground)

You can add 1/4 cup of epsom bath salts to this to up the magnesium and boost your mood.

Stir dried milk, baking soda and ground oats together.  Add the lavender essential oil and stir together to break up any clumps.  Finally, stir in the dried chamomile flowers.  Divide oatmeal milk bath into your containers of choice.  I found the glass jars with wooden spoons at Hobby Lobby but you could of course, use mason jars!  Or if you prefer, use a coffee filter or bath tea bag to package individual sized portions of the oatmeal bath milk. To use, add about 1/2 cup of the oatmeal milk bath to warm water and stir to dissolve.

The chamomile flowers will soften a bit and float during the bath – remove them or crush them into small pieces before draining the bath tub.

Whole fat dry milk provides moisturizing and softening benefits for skin.

Rosemary & Lemon Epsom Bath Salt Recipe

1 1/2 cups salt*
4 tablespoons of olive oil
Juice of 1-2 lemons
Zest of one lemon
2 sprigs of rosemary

*Lets start with salt. There are many different kinds of salt out there with various healing properties to them. For this recipe I recommend Epsom Salt or Magnesium Salt for the great health benefits of helping muscle and nerve function and reducing inflammation in the body. If you don’t have those lying around, rock salt or sea salt can substitute just fine.

Honey & Oatmeal Epsom Bath Salt Recipe

1 cup of oats
4 to 6 tablespoons of raw honey
1/3 cup Epsom salt
optional 4-8 drop essential oil

1. Start by adding the cup of oats to your blender, grinder or food processor and breaking them down until they are a finer powder.  I made this pretty fine as it helps everything simply wash down the drain at the end of the bath and there is little to nothing to wipe or clean up after the bath.  You can certainly leave them whole or break down less if you prefer.
2. Leaving the oats or powdered oats in the blender start to add in the honey, I did a little bit at a time.  My goal was the balled up crumbly look that you see here in the fourth image (and not a paste).  I ended up adding 6 tablespoons, there was a big difference in appearance between the 3rd and 4th tablespoons to the 6th so just add as much as you like.
3. Once you hit this crumbled up stage with the oats and honey add in the Epsom salt and quickly pulse or turn on again for just a few seconds to mix everything together, you don’t really need to break down the salt and it looks pretty whole.  You can enjoy right away or store it in an air tight container until you’re ready to use it.

Pick your favorite epsom bath salt recipe to use in  your spa gift baskets to give as gifts this holiday season!

Goat Milk Soap Recipe – Stunningly Easy To Make It Yourself

goat milk soap recipe

Goat Milk Soap Recipe – Stunningly Easy To Make It Yourself. Make this goat milk soap recipe using ingredients that are easy to find.  Sodium hydroxide (lye) can be found over at Amazon by clicking on this purchase lye link. You can also use canned goat’s milk, powdered goats milk or fresh, in the fridge section of your grocery store. Important information if you don’t have access to raw goat’s milk from your own goats or a friend willing to share. (find the supplies you need to make soap here)

Goat Milk Soap Recipe

  • 18 oz slushy raw goat milk
  • 6 oz water
  • 6 oz lye (sodium hydroxide)
  • 9 oz olive oil
  • 10 oz coconut oil
  • 24 oz vegetable shortening or lard

Heat the solid oils until they are almost melted. Take the pot off the heat source. Swirl the oil until they melt the rest of the way. Add in the olive oil. Set aside to cool down to 100 degrees.

Mix the lye and water. Mix the lye into the water (Important note for controlling how fast the reaction happens). It will heat up so I like to use a tall container. A plastic pitcher works great even though there isn’t a whole lot of liquid in the bottom. I also like to put the pitcher in a basin of ice water while I am mixing the lye into the water. This get the mixture to cool down to 100 degrees faster.  Because I’m not a patient person myself, to speed up the cooling of the lye/water mixture you can slip a few ice cubes down the side of the pitcher.  When everything is 100 degrees mix the lye/water into the oils, give it a quick stir with a wooden or plastic long handled spoon then add in the raw goat milk.

Mixing to Trace

Mix with your stick blender until trace. Your soap mixture should look like thick vanilla pudding. At this point add in a few drops of what ever flavor essential oil you wish and what ever extra pieces of stuff. Give it another swirl or two. Now you pour your mixture into soap molds or card board soup trays (even ramine boxes work) lined with wax paper. Cover with towels and let sit overnight. After about 24 hours dump out your soap, cut (here is a funny crinkle cut knife article I wrote), then let stand on end for several weeks to dry out. Enjoy!

How to tell if your goat milk soap recipe has reached trace

When using a stick blender to get to the point of trace it is a good idea to start and stop the blender, not run it continuously.  I just use my stick blender as a spoon and turn it on intermittently as I’m waiting for the soap to trace.

If you happen to pour your soap into the mold before it has really traced and it separates you can always pour it back into your pot do this. Heat it up slowly and blend it some more until it reaches a real trace.

The other problem is going past the trace mark right into seized. Again you can recover from this. Grate the soap up then reheat (slowly) and add more goat’s milk (a little at a time) until it is no longer seized. Then just put it in the mold and let it set up.

Your Goat Milk Soap Recipe Has Seized What can you do?

You can prevent it by paying attention to the temperature and water amount. Soap cool and don’t discount your water. When you are using a new fragrance or essential oil and don’t know how it will effect your soap, make a one pound test batch first. If it is happening, don’t panic!

With a light seize, where just where you are stick blending on the bottom of the pot is seizing, stop stick blending and stir to trace by hand.

goat milk soap recipe

With a heavy seize that you can’t save, you’ve got three options!

Hot Process it – Dump it into a crock pot and hot process it. If it goes beyond the point of being able to stir it smooth and pour into a mold, you can hot process it. Simply put it into a crock pot and cook it until the whole mass has gelled (turned translucent) and then glop it into a mold.

Rebatch it – If you managed to get it into a mold but it is UGLY, you can rebatch it. Here are rebatching instructions. If you do it the day after, you usually won’t have to add additional water to it. If you rebatch it weeks later, you can add a bit of water to the shreds before cooking.

Chunk it – You can let your soap sit until solid. Cut it up into little chunks. Make a new batch of soap and add the chunks into the new batch. I’ve come up with some really nice

We also have a super simple recipe for Goat’s Milk Lotion – Make it the same day you plan to ship it, as there is no lead time necessary (that’s a plus for last minute gifts right?)

Make Goats Milk Soap For Gifts – Putting It All Together

You can always make the lotion and put it in a cute container and don’t forget to use your imagination for wrapping your soap! Gift baskets are popular and easy to put together too.

All it takes is a basket, some cellophane wrap (you can get at the dollar store), some tissue paper, your soap, a container of lotion, and maybe a loofah sponge, a candle and a relaxing CD. Put it all in your basket after arranging the tissue paper, then wrap the whole thing in cellophane wrap and add a big bow.

Here is a video to give  you an idea about how to put it all together.

There you go super simple, super personal and quite frankly – lots of fun!!

The gift basket featured above I made for a craft fair. In fact I made a bunch of them. You can do it too! Homemade Goat Milk Soap Recipe For Beginners fast & easy Get Stunning Results

Goats Milk Soap Recipe For Beginners
Get Great Results making goat milk soap

Having been a soap maker for quite a few years now, I have discovered this secret almost by accident and now make wonderfully luxurious cream colored goat’s milk soap.  Using this secret disclosed in the homemade goat milk soap recipe for beginners,  you will be making great soap for your family and friends too, with very little headache.

Easy To Find Ingredients

Most of these ingredients can be purchased at your local grocery or health food store, except for the lye (sodium hydroxide) that will need to come from an online source probably Amazon. You can get smaller quantities from them and it is shipped without hassle for a reasonable price.  It is hard to keep 50 pounds of lye around if you aren’t making soap in large quantities. 50 Pounds is the quantity sold most commonly by soap maker supply companies.

What you need to make Goats Milk Soap For Beginners

As far as utensils go; it really depends on how much soap you plan to make. This recipe will make about three pounds of soap – enough to cover the bottom of a Campbell’s soup box (you know the cardboard that holds a case of soup). If you cut it in half then you could make 8 bars in soap molds.

I like to use an enamel pot that has high sides. I melt the solid oils together first over low, then add the olive oil so cool the oils down to 100degrees. And then when I mix the lye solution in I’m less likely to splash the mixture on myself. (Vinegar is the neutralizing agent for lye – keep it out and handy if you get some lye or lye mixture on you, douse with vinegar and it will stop the burning).

Though you may be tempted to make this without safety glasses, refrain. Wear those glasses! And gloves.  Wear gloves.

Okay, enough on the safety warnings. I’m sure you have your own mother to mutter these little warnings to  you so you don’t need me.

I have a plastic pitcher, a wooden spoon and a separate little glass container that I use for all things lye related. You can get  all of the supplies you need to make soap here

Here is the list:

  • An enamel or stainless steel pot (it doesn’t have to be real big)
  • 1 plastic pitcher
  • 2 wooden spoons
  • 1 stick blender (doesn’t really need to be dedicated to making soap, but be sure to wash it well)
  • 1 kitchen scale (the balance scales work okay for this recipe,  you will need a serious scale for most soap recipes though)
  • 2 glass thermometers
  • safety glasses
  • plastic gloves
  • vinegar on hand
  • a big plastic or glass bowl to set your lye mixture pitcher in.

That is it!

This is the homemade goat milk soap recipe for beginners:

  • 18 oz slushy goat’s milk – This can be from the grocery store, from a friend, from your goat, or powered that has been reconstituted. It also needs to be partially frozen for best results.
  • 6 oz water
  • 6 oz lye (sodium hydroxide)
  • 10 oz coconut oil
  • 24 oz of shortening or lard
  • 9 oz olive oil

That is it!

Learn to make goats milk soap perfectly even if you are a beginner with stuff you mostly can find at your local grocer

Here is the secret to getting cream colored goat’s milk soap

Rather than the orange/brown stuff that most beginners end up with. The reason goat’s milk soap turns brown is because the lye causes the milk solids to burn. The way around that problem is to mix the lye with water first, then mix the lye into the oils and then add the milk.

Another important point is that  you want  your lye solution and your oil to be about the same temperature and that temperature needs to be 100 degrees. It does make a difference.

I like to mix my lye solution over an ice bath. So I put the pitcher in a big bowl full of ice, mix the lye into the water s l o w l  y   so it doesn’t explode and then drop ice cubes down into the solution to get it to cool down quicker. I’m so not the patient type.

Here are the steps to the Homemade Goat Milk Soap Recipe for Beginners:

  • Heat the coconut oil and shortening/lard until it melts in the big pot. Take it off the heat and add olive oil.  Set aside to cool.
  • Put on your safety glasses and gloves
  • Put the pitcher in the ice bath add the water and then the lye to the water.
  • Once both are the same temperature, 100 degrees, mix the lye into the oils (DO NOT DO THIS THE OTHER WAY AROUND )
  • Add the milk.
  • Use the stick blender to mix and blend. Do this in pulses of 20 seconds or you will burn out your blender. Between pulses stir with the blender.
  • When the concoction traces it will look like vanilla pudding. Trace just means that it hold the shape of a swirl, like, as I said, vanilla pudding.
soap trace

Once it begins to trace add your essential oil and extra stuff. I like to use lavender oil and lavender bits, but you can add almost anything. If you are planning to add oatmeal, you need to grind it up first. Take it from me, the whole oats things doesn’t work so well, I know, I’ve tried it.

Adding Stuff To Your Soap

When it comes to adding essential oils, I only add a few drops. For honey/oatmeal soap, I add about 1/4 cup of honey and a cup of oats. Also I have found that sandalwood oil can cause your soap to seize. (turns hard really fast) so go slow when adding that.

Make sure that you have lined your cardboard molds with wax paper before you start if you are planning to use cardboard molds. Pour your mixture into the mold after it has traced and you’ve added all your stuff and made sure it traced again.

Before you Cut Your Soap

Let the soap sit in the mold for 24 hours – it will harden up. You then want to dump it out and cut it into the shapes you want. Let it cure for at least 2-3 weeks before using. Enjoy!

The whole process shouldn’t take you more than maybe an hour from start to finish.

Homemade goats milk soap recipes without lye for beginners. #homemadesoapforbeginners #homemadesoap #naturalsoapmakingforbeginners @hart_nana

All of these homemade goats milk soap recipes without lye start with the same base.

Phew, now we are ready. Don’t worry if you don’t have the exact stuff, all brand new. I started making homemade soap by melting down shards of soap and then reforming them into a variety of shapes. Here is a recipe that you can make with stuff you have hanging around so long as you grabbed your goats milk soap base from Amazon, JoAnnes or Michaels.

A couple notes about melt and pour soaps. You do still need to let them harden. But you don’t need to worry about curing. Curing is the process needed to make sure the whole soponification process has been completed and that there isn’t random lye still in the soap.

Orange & Cinnamon Goats Milk Soap Recipes Without Lye

  • Goats Milk Soap Base
  • Orange Essential Oil
  • Cinnamon
  • A Soap Mold

Chop the base up and melt it in the microwave or in a double boiler. I go for the microwave as it is faster & less hassle. Once the base is melted add in about ten drops of orange essential oil per pound of base melted. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon (more if you’d like, or less). Then pour the mixture into your soap mold. After a day or two remove from the mold and let harden for a couple weeks.

Note about soap molds. You can spend money on them but seriously the only thing you need to remember is that they can’t be aluminum. Cardboard is fine. You also need to be able to remove the soap from the mold once it is set. For that wax paper works great. This is why silicon is so popular. Can I tell you how much I love my purple insert for the rectangular wood box mold I finally acquired? So much easier to remove the soap to cut.

Chose Your Base

Onсе уоu dеtеrmіnе which base you wоuld like tо start with, you juѕt have tо find thе right tubеѕ, flаvоrіng and еѕѕеntіаl oils. Buуіng tubes саn bе еаѕу аnd incredibly сhеар іf уоu find a whоlеѕаlеr. It’ѕ іmроrtаnt to rеmеmbеr thаt not аll wholesalers require a hіgh mіnіmum fоr уоur order. Look fоr a company thаt wіll ѕеll lір balm tubеѕ at a whоlеѕаlе price fоr аnу quantities. When ѕtаrtіng out, I’d rесоmmеnd lооkіng for сlеаr tubеѕ, that way you can see your fіnіѕhеd product аnd how іt lооkѕ after іt ѕіtѕ fоr a whіlе.

Easy homemade lip balm recipes – flavoring & essential oils

Flavoring аnd еѕѕеntіаl оіlѕ аrе next. Whеn searching for flavoring, lооk fоr something that won’t bе too strong. Mоѕt реорlе аѕѕосіаtе ѕtrоng ѕсеnt оr flavor with lір glоѕѕ, not lір balm. Remember, it’s always bеttеr to start оff wіth a ‘nоt ѕtrоng enough’ flаvоr thаn аn overpowering оnе.

Sо уоu hаvе your base аnd flаvоrіng, nоw іt’ѕ tіmе tо think about еѕѕеntіаl oils. Thіѕ іѕ thе раrt where уоu саn rеаllу сuѕtоmіzе. Yоu саn add aloe or jоjоbа оіl to thе mіx tо add mоіѕturе. If you want a strong рrоtесtіоn against thе sun, аdd an SPF. Thе possibilities аrе endless.

Once you hаvе еvеrуthіng уоu nееd, the рrосеѕѕ is ѕіmрlе. Be sure tо mix properly, аt least fіvе mіnutеѕ when melted to еnѕurе the рrоduсt combines properly.

What comes next?

Onсе mіxеd, роur into уоur соntаіnеrѕ. Thіѕ іѕ thе раrt оf the process thаt саn gеt a bіt ѕtісkу. I’d recommend a turkеу baster іf you аrе uѕіng іnduѕtrу ѕtаndаrd ѕіzе tubes (4.25 grams).

From there, you саn ѕеt уоur lір balm upright to dry. If using the іnduѕtrу ѕtаndаrd ѕіzе tubеѕ, and plan оn dоіng lаrgеr ԛuаntіtіеѕ оr using іn thе futurе, lооk оn eBay for ‘mоld hоldеrѕ’. Thеѕе wіll bе ѕmаll, usually styrofoam, соntаіnеrѕ thаt wіll hоld thе lір balm upright whіlе drуіng. It саn hеlр ѕаvе you a hеаdасhе.

Onсе dry, you саn use оn уоur lірѕ аnd you wіll be rеаdу to gо!

Making Soap From Soap Scraps – Don’t Let Those Shards Go To Waste

3 ways to make soap from soap scraps.

Making soap from soap scraps is an easy way to recycle your soap remnants. We are going to talk about three ways to go about making soap from soap scraps.

Milling Your Soap Scraps Is One Approach.

Milling soap scraps involves using a cheese grater or food processor to shred your soap. Add the grated soap to a double boiler or melt it in the microwave. Water, goat’s milk or almond mild can be added at this point to thin it a bit. A little liquid goes a long way. At this point you can either shape it into balls or mold it by hand or in forms.

While you might need to let this dry out before using, it doesn’t need to be re-cured.

I like to do this for guest soaps which make great little gifts. Buy cute soap dishes when you find them on sale. Then you have a fast thoughtful gift for wedding showers, birthday gifts or any other little special event that requires a nominal gift.

Chopping the Scraps to Add as Decoration to New Bars of Soap

Sometimes I will take old soap scraps that are colorful, chop them into smaller random sized pieces and add them to new batches of soap. This can give some interesting designs to your newer soap batches. This also works equally well with glycerine soaps and cold process soaps.

Making soap from soap scraps. The second bar in this picture demonstrates one method.

Make Liquid Soap From Soap Scraps

To make liquid soap from soap scraps you will need about 3 ounces of soap scraps. Grate them down in a food processor, with a cheese grater or use a knife to chop them up finely. You will also need:

  • Water
  • A ѕаuсе раn or роt
  • Essential оіlѕ (optional)
  • Sоар coloring (орtіоnаl)
  • Empty ѕоар dіѕреnѕеrѕ

Here is how the process goes:

Grаtе or fіnеlу сhор a bаr оf soap (уоu’ll nееd four оunсеѕ of ѕоар fоr thіѕ rесіре). Yоu саn grаtе your ѕоар bу hаnd оr in a food рrосеѕѕоr. A fооd рrосеѕѕоr іѕ dеfіnіtеlу the fаѕtеѕt approach.

Bring fоur сuрѕ of water tо a bоіl on the stove. Thеn, turn оff thе heat, and аdd уоur ѕоар flаkеѕ. Stir to mеlt thе soap. Cоntіnuе stirring until the mіxturе is fully combined. At thіѕ роіnt the mіxturе wіll bе vеrу liquidy.

Allоw thе mixture tо сооl fоr аt least 15 mіnutеѕ. Then, stir it аgаіn. Thе ѕоар ѕhоuld bе ѕlіghtlу thicker nоw. Allоw the ѕоар tо сооl fоr аnоthеr ѕеvеrаl hоurѕ оr оvеrnіght.

Stіr tо check thе consistency. If it ѕееmѕ tоо liquidy, rеhеаt it and аdd more ѕоар flаkеѕ. If it ѕееmѕ tоо thick, reheat іt and аdd mоrе wаtеr. Thе mоіѕturе соntеnt vаrіеѕ frоm one batch of soap scraps tо the nеxt, ѕо уоu’ll рrоbаblу hаvе to dо a bіt оf twеаkіng to get уоur rесіре juѕt rіght.

Onсе you’re satisfied wіth thе consistency оf your lіԛuіd ѕоар, аdd a fеw drорѕ оf еѕѕеntіаl оіl аnd/оr coloring, іf dеѕіrеd. The essential оіl соntеnt ѕhоuld nоt еxсееd 2% of thе rесіре; 1%, іf сhіldrеn wіll be uѕіng іt.

Thеn, роur уоur soap іntо уоur ѕоар dіѕреnѕеrѕ, аnd еnjоу.

There you have it. Three ways of making soap from soap scraps to get the most out of your soap making efforts.

Homemade Shaving Soap Recipe That Works Best Wet

Only three ingredients are used to create this luxurious homemade shaving cream that Melody Joy shared over on  her blog

Only 2 ingredients plus water to make this super luxurious homemade shaving cream recipe.

homemade soap recipe

1 cup Dr. Bronner’s almond liquid castile soap (or your choice, but almond is fab)!
1 1/2 cups water
3/4 cup baking soda

[amazon_link asins=’B000HK1ON0,B018ELIYA4,B01M7RNBZA,B00KF5STQC’ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’hartnana-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’bc711414-f577-11e7-8289-f7354113168e’]

Stick blender
Stock pot (8 quart or larger)
Rubber spatula
Slotted spoon
Small mixing bowl
Pint size jar (wide mouth)

[amazon_link asins=’B00VF1NI5M,B01G2W5IZG,B01HETW85E’ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’hartnana-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’842d3d19-f577-11e7-96e8-25d473280400′]

STEP 1: Combine all ingredients in the stock pot and cook. Heat over medium-high, stirring slowly and consistently until a plume of foam reaches to just below the rim of the pot. (Watch carefully! This only takes a couple minutes). Turn off heat and remove the pot to an empty sink (in case it foams over, which I’ve had happen and it’s rather a mess).

STEP 2: Allow the mixture to cool for about 4 hours. As it cools, the plume of foam will shrink down to a sticky thick crust with a shallow watery substance separated and hanging out at the bottom of the pot.

STEP 3:Scoop the solids into a bowl. Using a slotted spoon, collect the sticky mass of solids into the small mixing bowl. Discard the leftover watery substance that remains. (This substance has lost it’s poop and it isn’t good for much. I tried using it on dishes and the result were sad. Somehow, all the soapiness and lathering action is captured in the thick paste, so what’s left is anti-climatic).

STEP 4: Whip it. Place about half of the cooled mixture into a wide-mouthed pint-size jar. Using the stick blender, whip the mix, moving the mixer up and down until you have a thick, rich cream that looks like something you’d glob onto a dessert. I like to use the stick blender and pint jar this way, because it just seems to work best for creating the right texture (very much like traditional shaving cream). The stick blender also makes for easy clean up.

STEP 5: Store and enjoy. Store your shaving cream in a separate pint-size jar, or the same one you used for mixing. You can keep your jar of shaving soap in your shower, but keep it sealed when not in use so it doesn’t dry out. It’s best used within two weeks, but it will last much longer. Over time, it may settle and become a bit stiffer than at first. You can try swiftly stirring it up with just a finger (you may be amazed at how well this creams it up again). Or you could simply give it another whiz with the stick blender to make it good as new.

4 Ingredient DIY Homemade Shaving Cream Recipe

Rachel Hollis offers this easy to make homemade shaving cream recipe as a fast last minute DIY father’s day gift idea. Personally I think this works great for any occasion – maybe even mother’s day?

4 ingredients to make a luxurious homemade shaving cream recipe.

1 cup Shea Butter

1/2 cup Coconut Oil

1/2 teaspoon Jojoba Oil

25 drops of Bergamot Essential Oil

[amazon_link asins=’B017RUI3AY,B00DS842HS,B0019LTGOU,B00PHQJWXS’ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’hartnana-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’1cbf69fe-f573-11e7-b26b-95aa84cbc14a’]

First, soften Shea Butter (it is very hard in natural form)

Add Shea Butter and Coconut Oil to large mixing bowl.

Add Jojoba and Bergamont oils to bowl.

Using a hand mixer, mix all ingredients for 10 minutes. (This will create a light, whipped texture).

Store in an air tight container.

Brandee’s Chic Tip: The key to getting a light, whipped texture is by letting the Shea soften. You can also whip Shea butter with a hand mixer in it’s natural form, but it will result in a thicker, creamier texture that is a little harder to spread evenly over skin.

Three Homemade Shaving Soap Recipes

These three recipes should offer  at least one alternative to enjoying a natural shaving experience. These work perfectly well for men and women. They also make perfect gifts or additions to a gift basket.

Safety first! Always be sure to wear eye protection and gloves. Keep a jug of vinegar on the counter easily accessible in case of spills or splashes. (it is the neutralizing agent for lye) Make sure you mix the lye into the water in a well ventilated area. NEVER DUMP WATER ONTO THE LYE. Bad, bad things can happen that way.

Here is a list of the equipment you will need for making your all natural homemade soap recipes

Almond Milk Soap Recipe

  • 18 oz slushy almond milk
  • 6 oz water
  • 6 oz lye
  • 9 oz olive oil
  • 10 oz coconut oil
  • 24 oz vegetable shortening like Crisco

Melt the coconut oil and vegetable shortening. Once the oils are just about melted add olive oil. This will bring the temperature down. You want to have both the oil and water/lye solutions around 100 degrees when you add the water/lye to the oils. Add your lye to the water. I like to do this over ice in a pitcher sitting in a bowl with ice in it. Continue to stir your water as you add the lye S L O W L Y .

Once the oils and the water/lye mixtures are both around 100 degrees add the water/lye mixture to the oils and add  your almond milk at this point.

Now you stir/blend with your stick blender until it reaches trace. Trace looks like thick pudding. If you want to add essential oils, or additions like ground oatmeal, or honey, now is the time.

*Note about adding essential oils. Add them slowly. A few drops at  time. Sometimes essential oils can make  your soap seize. If this happens just re batch it. I talk about that here.

The next step is to pour your soap into the mold of  your choice. Wait 24 hours then dump the soap out of the mold and cut. Let this dry for at least 6 weeks before  using.

Powdered Goats Milk Soap Recipe

To make powdered goats milk soap,  you need to reconstitute powdered goats milk according to the package directions. Put it in a container that you can put in the freezer so that it becomes slushy. Keeping milk cold before adding it to your soap mixture will ensure a whiter bar of soap. If you mix it while the milk is still not super cold you stand the chance of burning the milk solids with the lye/water solution.

Use the recipe for almond milk and follow those directions.

Coconut Milk Soap Recipe

  • Palm oil 8 oz
  • Coconut oil 8 oz
  •  Pure olive oil 8 oz
  • 1 oz castor oil
  • 3.2 oz sodium hydroxide (lye)
  • 3.59 oz distilled water
  • 3.59 oz coconut milk
  • 2 oz fragrance oil

Make sure your coconut milk is slushy before starting this process. Mix your lye into your water. While it is cooling down to 90%s heat up your oils to 90%s too. Mix your water/lye mixture into the oils and add the coconut milk. Mix to trace and then add the essential oil of your choice.

Pour into mold. Let sit for 24 hours before cutting. Let sit for 4 to 6 weeks before using.
